Easy To Use
Shave a day ahead to prevent irritation and skip waxing/plucking to keep roots intact.
Gently cleanse and dry skin completely before treatment; avoid harsh exfoliants.
Patch test a small area to check your skin sensitivity.
Flash an area no more than 3 times in a single session to avoid irritation.
Essential Tips
Patch test first.
Start at the lowest setting on a small area, flashing 1–3 times. Gradually increase the intensity on different spots until reaching the highest setting. If no adverse reactions occur within 24 hours, proceed with your full treatment. Stop use if discomfort arises.
Be consistent.
Consistent use ensures the best long-term results. Stick to your schedule, and you’ll typically begin seeing results in 1–4 weeks, and smooth, hair-free skin in about 4 months. Allow 48–72 hours between treatments to prevent irritation and ensure safe, effective results.
Choose the right power level.
Start with the lowest setting, especially if you have sensitive skin. Gradually increase as your skin adjusts to minimize discomfort and maximize effectiveness.
Hydrate and protect your skin.
Avoid sun exposure after treatment and apply SPF 30+ to prevent irritation or pigmentation changes. Stay hydrated by drinking water and moisturize daily for better IPL results.
Protect your eyes.
Never point the device at your eyes, and wear the protective eyewear included with Ulike devices.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this be used on darker skin?
IPL works best when there’s a strong contrast between hair and skin tone. Darker skin absorbs more light, which increases the risk of burns or hyperpigmentation. If your skin tone falls within the lower range of the Fitzpatrick scale (I–IV), IPL may be suitable, but always do a patch test first. But if you have a darker skin tone, consider other options like professional ND:YAG lasers or electrolysis.
Do I always need to shave before using IPL?
Yes, shaving is essential before IPL treatment if the hair's longer than 2 mm. Shaving a day before a session removes hair at the surface while leaving the root intact, allowing the light to reach the follicle effectively. Don't wax or pluck, as these remove the hair from the root, making IPL ineffective. While this may be a step you'd prefer to avoid, in the long-run, IPL reduces hair growth, and thus reduces the need to shave.
How many times should I flash the same area?
For the best results, flash each area three times per session. This ensures even coverage and maximizes effectiveness. Avoid exceeding three flashes per spot, as it won’t improve results and may cause irritation.
Does IPL hair removal hurt?
Ulike’s IPL devices feature Sapphire Ice Cooling Technology, making treatments very comfortable and the sensation highly tolerable. Most users describe a mild warmth or tingling sensation, but nothing uncomfortable.
Can I use lotion after IPL?
Moisturizing with lotion is great, but I recommend using a gentle, fragrance-free lotion or aloe vera gel to soothe the skin. Avoid products with alcohol, retinoids, or harsh chemicals.
Can I use deodorant after IPL?
It’s best to wait a few hours before using deodorant. IPL can make the skin more sensitive, and applying deodorant immediately may cause irritation.
Is Ulike IPL safe to use?
Yes, IPL is a well-researched, clinically tested hair removal method. Ulike IPL devices are FDA-cleared and certified by the FCC, UKCA, CE, and RoHS for safe at-home use. Plus, all UV rays are filtered to protect your skin.
Can pregnant women use IPL?
There’s no conclusive evidence that IPL affects pregnancy or breastfeeding, but to be cautious, I do not recommend using IPL during these periods.
